In warm climates where homes are built on slab foundations the main clean out fitting is often outside usually near the exterior walls of the home.

Every floor drain is different so check yours out thoroughly before starting the flush. Open the cap and let the buildup drain out.

Use this port to flush the drain with distilled vinegar. Find a clean out plug located on a large drain pipe in areas such as your basement crawl space garage or near the foundation of your house. Stand clear as you remove the plug and as you work on the clog. Remove the cover and inspect the drain. Waste water may drain out when you open the cleanout and when you break the clog. I would fit your flooring neatly around the clean out rim and then screw down a stainless steel cover plate that laps onto the flooring.

You can run the screw right into the cleanout plug. In most cases the main clean out will be located at some point along this line from floor drain to street. A clogged floor drain can leave water standing in. Any waste that the clog has caused to build up will come spilling out of the main line drain.

How to clean a continuous floor drain. Alternately you can use hot water and a drop of dish liquid. Remove the plug with an adjustable wrench. If you don t like the odor you can use peroxide to gently bubble away the remaining debris.

Quickly open the cap and step out of the way. In some instances the clean out fitting will be flush mounted in the floor but it may also be a raised stub out pipe.

If yours doesn t have a screw or you ve just taken the screw out you can easily pry the grated top out of the floor. If you have a continuous floor drain in your garage or laundry room a backup can be a messy experience. Look behind bushes or in a metal or plastic box recessed into the ground.
